France—officially known as French Republic, French France or RépubliqueFrançaise—is a country in Northwestern Europe. France is historically and culturally among the most important nations in the western world. The country or nation has played a highly important role in international affairs with former colonies in every corner of the world. It’s Europe’s most important agricultural producer and doubles as one of the world’s leading industrial powers.

France is a popular tourist destination which is known for a lot of things. France is known to have the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre (one of the world’s most populous museums), the Tour de France, and of course quality education. A lot of international students try yearly to gain admission into top tertiary universities, particularly in the city of Paris. Unlike many other popular study destinations, the official language in France is not English but French. This means that a majority of the universities in the country instruct their students in French.

Do you have dreams of visiting the Eiffel Tower while studying in Paris but you don’t know how to speak French? Are you wondering if it’s possible to study in France without learning French? Are you looking for English-taught universities in the country? If you have such concerns then you have made it to the right blog post because, in today’s article, I’ll be providing you with a list of English-taught universities in France.

What’s the number of English-taught universities in France?

Although, I may not be able to accurately give the exact number of universities in France offering English-taught programs, what I can tell you with confidence is that there are more than 1,100 study programmes entirely taught in English at French universities and if you are lucky, your preferred course is one of them.

The study programs mentioned above cuts across all the levels of academic study but most of the degrees (around 900) are at the master’s level.

How can I determine if a study program is taught in English?

It’s one thing to know that there are English-taught programs in France and it’s another to know how to determine if a study program is taught in English.

Why is this important? Even though some universities in France offer English-taught programs, not all universities do that. Some of the universities instruct their students in French but there are specific courses that are taught in English within the French-speaking university. Hence, when you can determine which courses are taught in English in any French university your options become broader as you no longer have to rely only on universities that instruct only in English in France.

To determine if a course is taught in English in any French university, you’ll have to visit the university’s website and search for the course on the university’s website and then check out the details on their page to determine if it’s English-taught or not.

Do I have to learn French even while offering an English-taught degree in France?

Let’s face it. Even though it’s possible to study in English in France, you’ll still have to learn the French language early on. At least enough to be able to converse with others.

Why do you have to do this? It’s because France is not an English-speaking country and various reports about the country indicate that under 40% of the local population speak English and an even lower percentage can speak English fluently. This means that, even though you will be taught in English, navigating around the city, asking for help, using public transport, or even shopping might become a problem if you don’t understand French.
